What this amendment would do
Mr. Padilla put forward this amendment, known as SA 1638, to deal with the ongoing military recruitment crisis and to give support to the members of our Armed Forces. As folks we elected to represent us, we need to know what they are trying to do with our budget and how they plan to take care of the people who serve.
What It Aims to Change or Add
This amendment adds a deficit-neutral reserve fund to the concurrent resolution. Here is what that means in plain English:
- It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change budget allocations and make adjustments.
- These changes are for legislation that addresses the military recruitment crisis and supports members of the Armed Forces.
- One specific thing mentioned is prohibiting the interruption of mental health resources for recruits and members of the Armed Forces.
- The catch is that any legislation using this fund cannot increase the deficit over the total period from fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
