What this amendment would do
Mr. Padilla submitted amendment SA 1635 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 through fiscal year 2034. As folks we elected to represent us, it is our job to keep an eye on how they handle our resources and priorities.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting Tribal mental health care and suicide prevention resources.
This aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revise allocations for legislation that protects these specific Tribal resources. Specifically, the text notes this may include:
- Prohibiting cuts to coverage and services
- Prohibiting the unjustified employment terminations of Indian Health Service employees
Importantly, any legislation for these purposes must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
