What this amendment would do
-
Purpose: This amendment, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto, sets up a rule in the Senate to keep track of our elected officials and hold them accountable when it comes to how our tax dollars are spent on immigrant children.
-
The Rule: It creates a point of order in the Senate against considering any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that provides funding for cages for immigrant children.
-
Bypassing the Rule: To pass something that funds these cages anyway, it would take a three-fifths vote of the Senators chosen and sworn to either waive the rule or sustain an appeal of the Chair's ruling.
