What this amendment would do
As folks looking out for the common good and holding our officials accountable, we need to know what our representatives are proposing. This amendment, labeled SA 1577, was submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto to the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14, which sets the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and lays out budgetary levels through fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
Purpose and Changes
- The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to immigration enforcement against Dreamers at the end of title III.
- It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
- It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for certain bills, joint resolutions, amendments, and other legislative actions relating to immigration enforcement.
- This enforcement may include prohibiting immigration enforcement against Dreamers with no criminal record or who do not pose a threat to public safety.
- The changes are allowed as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
