What this amendment would do
As folks who want to keep our elected officials accountable, we need to know what goes into these budget resolutions. This amendment, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto, is all about protecting the wallet of the everyday American when it comes to the basic cost of groceries.
What It Aims to Change
The amendment adds a point of order to the budget resolution. Simply put, this creates a rule that stops the Senate from considering any legislation or related measures that funds immigration enforcement actions if those actions would result in higher milk prices for American consumers.
To bypass this rule and pass a measure that raises milk prices through immigration enforcement, it would take a three-fifths affirmative vote of all the Senators chosen and sworn.
