What this amendment would do

As folks working for the people in Congress, we need to keep our elected officials and government workers honest and make sure our national security comes first. This amendment, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto, sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.

The purpose of this is to allow changes to the budget for legislation that improves national security and gets rid of conflicts of interest. Specifically, it aims to require any officer or employee in the executive branch—including special Government employees—to divest from any asset valued at $50,000,000 or greater that is held subject to the jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China.

  • Allows budget adjustments for laws improving national security and removing conflicts of interest.
  • Targets executive branch officers and employees.
  • Requires getting rid of certain assets worth $50,000,000 or more tied to China.
