What this amendment would do
As folks looking out for the people, we need to hold our elected officials accountable. This amendment, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto, aims to set up a new rule in the Senate to protect Medicaid.
What It Changes or Adds
-
It creates a point of order in the Senate against any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that would cause States to reduce Medicaid eligibility, limit coverage of certain services, or reduce provider payment rates.
-
It states that this rule can only be waived or suspended in the Senate by a three-fifths vote of the members who are duly chosen and sworn.
-
It also requires a three-fifths vote of the sworn members to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on this point of order.
