What this amendment would do
As folks looking out for the everyday people, we need to keep an eye on how our elected officials handle the federal budget. This amendment, labeled SA 1468, was submitted by Ms. Alsobrooks and Mr. Kim for the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to the federal workforce. Specifically, it aims to allow changes to budget levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation that prevents a reduction in the workforce at the Department of Health and Human Services if that reduction would put our seniors and children at risk.
To keep our officials accountable, this comes with a strict rule: any legislation using this fund cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
