What this amendment would do
Ms. Blunt Rochester, along with Mr. Bennet, put forward this amendment to deal with the housing affordability crisis we are facing. In plain English, it sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
The Purpose
The main goal is to give the Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee the power to make adjustments and changes for legislation that tackles housing affordability. Specifically, this allows for laws that prohibit tariffs and trade practices that make it harder and more expensive to build homes by putting tariffs on raw materials and components.
Holding Officials Accountable
As folks elected to represent us, our officials need to make sure we are not adding to the national debt. This amendment explicitly states that any new laws passed using this fund cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
