What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Ms. Rosen, sets up a point of order in the Senate against any legislation, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that would increase internet costs. In plain English, it creates a specific roadblock to stop our elected officials from passing anything that makes the internet more expensive for the people.
How It Works and Accountability
If someone tries to bring up a measure that drives up your internet bill, any Senator can raise a objection based on this rule. To push past this roadblock and pass the costly internet legislation anyway, the Senate would need a three-fifths affirmative vote of the members chosen and sworn. The exact same three-fifths supermajority vote is also required to overturn a ruling by the Chair regarding this point of order. This ensures we can clearly see how our officials vote when it comes to protecting our pocketbooks from rising internet prices.
