What this amendment would do
Ms. Hirono, along with Mr. Peters, submitted amendment numbered SA 1338 to be proposed for the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14.
- The purpose of this amendment is to create a point of order in the Senate against legislation that would reduce Federal funding for before-school, after-school, or summer programs.
- It aims to add a rule stating that it shall not be in order in the Senate to consider any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that reduces Federal funding under part B of title IV of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965.
- To bypass this rule, the amendment requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members, duly chosen and sworn, to waive or suspend the subsection, or to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair.
