What this amendment would do
As folks who sent our officials to Washington, we need to keep a close eye on how our hard-earned tax dollars are spent, especially when it comes to vital programs we rely on like Social Security.
Purpose and Changes
This amendment, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto to the bill H.R. 1968, has a very straightforward purpose: it stops the government from using any funds to weaken the Social Security program.
Specifically, the amendment aims to add a rule that prevents the government from doing the following:
- Closing or cutting back: It blocks any funds from being used to close, end the lease of, or reduce service levels at any Social Security Administration office.
- Laying off workers: It stops the agency from starting any reduction in force procedures, which is just a formal way of saying layoffs.
