What this amendment would do
As folks who elect our officials, we expect transparency and want to make sure the people we vote for know what is going on. This amendment, submitted by Mr. Booker, is all about keeping tabs on the government's work by requiring annual reporting on fentanyl-related substances.
Specifically, the amendment aims to add a requirement that the Attorney General must submit a report to Congress every year. This report has to include:
- The number and scientific names of newly identified fentanyl-related substances.
- A description of any scientific and medical evaluations done on those substances.
- Any substances found to have an accepted medical use or a lower potential for abuse, along with their control status.
- The number of criminal cases charged involving each fentanyl-related substance.
