What this bill would do

This bill is called the Ocean Protection and DDT Reduction Act. It directs the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to study the impacts of dumping certain waste in the San Pedro Basin. The Administrator must monitor dumping, research impacts on the marine food web, develop scientific tools, and explore bioremediation. The bill also allows the Administrator to provide grants to study deep seafloor contamination off the coast of California. A report outlining the research strategy and identifying other offshore dump sites must be submitted to specific congressional committees within three years of enactment. Finally, the bill authorizes $6,000,000 to be appropriated for each of fiscal years 2028 through 2034 to carry out the Act.
