What this bill would do
This bill is known as the South Asian Heart Health Awareness and Research Act of 2026. It allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to award supplemental grant funds to States receiving Federal funding for heart health activities. These funds are meant to promote awareness of heart disease and its relationship to type 2 diabetes in communities disproportionately affected, such as the South Asian population in the United States. States that receive these funds must use them to develop culturally appropriate heart health materials, support community organizations, support research conferences and workshops, or conduct research regarding cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes among at-risk populations. The Secretary must submit a report to Congress on these activities not later than 2 years after the date of enactment. The bill authorizes $2,000,000 to be appropriated for each of fiscal years 2027 through 2031 to carry out this section.
