What this bill would do

The "Investing in National Values, Economy, Strategy, and Tomorrow Act," or "INVEST Act," requires Federal agencies to identify and sell off their ownership stakes in private, for-profit companies. This includes stocks, partnership interests, warrants, and special governance shares. Agencies must liquidate existing stakes within 8 years of the Act's enactment. Any stakes acquired after the Act must be sold within 8 years of their acquisition. All money earned from these sales must be sent to the Treasury to pay down the national debt.
