What this bill would do
The Calumet National Heritage Area Act seeks to amend the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. This amendment would designate the Calumet National Heritage Area in Indiana and Illinois as part of the National Heritage Area System. The region encompasses specific areas in Illinois and several counties in Indiana. The Calumet Heritage Partnership is named as the local coordinating entity for this area. To facilitate management, a proposed plan must be submitted to the Secretary of the Interior within three years. The Secretary's authority to provide assistance for this area will end 15 years after the Act is passed.
