What this bill would do
The Gold Reserve Transparency Act of 2025 aims to provide a credible audit of all gold reserves owned by the United States. The Comptroller General is required to hire an independent, third-party auditor to conduct a full assay, inventory, and audit within nine months of enactment. These audits must then occur every five years to maintain transparency. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of the Treasury to upgrade the quality of gold reserves to meet current global marketplace standards within five years. To accomplish this, the Treasury may contract with qualified domestic refiners and logistics firms.
