What this bill would do
This bill, known as the ``Putting American Workers First Act'', seeks to amend the National Labor Relations Act. It proposes to make it an unfair labor practice to employ or recruit any individual who is an unauthorized alien. Additionally, it would make it an unfair labor practice for a labor organization to represent an unauthorized alien for collective bargaining purposes. The bill includes exceptions for employers and labor organizations that make a good-faith effort to verify an individual's status using specific employment verification systems. Finally, it specifies that discharging an unauthorized alien cannot be used as evidence of employer animus regarding employee rights.
