What this bill would do
The Medicare Advantage Prompt Pay Act seeks to amend the Social Security Act to require Medicare Advantage organizations to pay clean claims more quickly. Under this bill, organizations must provide prompt payment for at least 95 percent of clean claims submitted to them. Payment deadlines are set at 14 days for electronic claims submitted under a contract and 30 days for other claims. If an organization fails to meet these deadlines, they are required to pay interest to the provider. Additionally, the Secretary can impose civil money penalties of up to $25,000 for non-compliance. These changes are intended to apply to items and services furnished on or after January 1, 2027.
