What this bill would do

The Emerging Innovative Border Technologies Act requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to create a plan for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to use new and advanced technologies. This plan focuses on identifying, integrating, and deploying safe and secure technologies at international borders and ports of entry. The Secretary must submit this plan to specific Senate and House committees within 180 days of enactment. The bill also authorizes the Commissioner of CBP to maintain Innovation Teams to research and adapt various commercial technologies. These teams are tasked with addressing capability gaps in border security operations. Additionally, the Secretary must evaluate the costs and benefits of new technologies before large-scale deployment.
