What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Improving Police Critical Aid for Responding to Emergencies Act or the Improving Police CARE Act. It sets standards for trauma kits purchased using funds from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. The Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance must develop performance standards for these trauma kits within 180 days. The bill explicitly defines what a trauma kit is and lists the required components it must contain. Grantees may only purchase trauma kits that meet these new performance standards or separately acquire and assemble components that meet them. The bill also allows the Director to develop optional best practices for law enforcement agencies regarding training, deployment, and maintenance.
