What this bill would do
This bill establishes the United States Interagency Council on Housing Affordability and Preservation within the executive branch. The Council's mission is to develop Federal policy to increase affordable housing supply, improve rental market fairness, and further fair housing principles. It consists of heads from 21 different Federal agencies and requires them to meet at least four times a year. The Council is tasked with creating a National Strategic Plan and providing technical assistance to various levels of government. Additionally, the Council will monitor Federal housing programs and facilitate coordination between agencies and communities. The Act authorizes $4,800,000 for each fiscal year from 2027 through 2031 to fund these efforts.
