What this bill would do
This bill is called the Statutory Term Limits on Congressional Pay and Power Act. It stops a Member of Congress from serving as a committee chair, ranking minority member, or in a leadership position after they have served 12 or more cumulative years in either the House of Representatives or the Senate. It also stops these members from receiving their standard congressional pay after reaching 12 years of service. These restrictions apply starting with the One Hundred Twenty-First Congress and each succeeding Congress. The bill is treated as an exercise of the rulemaking power of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Potential Positive Impacts for People
-
According to Section 2(a) and Section 2(b)(2), members cannot serve as a committee chair, ranking minority member, or in leadership positions after 12 years of service. This might be considered positive because it prevents long-serving officials from holding onto powerful leadership roles indefinitely, holding them accountable over time.
-
According to Section 2(a) and Section 2(b)(1), members cannot receive their standard congressional pay after reaching 12 cumulative years of service in their respective House. Potential Negative Impacts for People
- Based strictly on the provided text, no specific negative impacts or burdens for individuals or groups of the general public are explicitly identified in the bill.
