What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Community Passport Services Access Act," seeks to amend the Passport Act of June 4, 1920. It proposes to allow certain public libraries to serve as passport acceptance facilities. Under this act, the Secretary of State can authorize libraries organized as non-governmental organizations, non-profits, charitable organizations, or trusts to collect and retain execution fees for passport applications. The bill also requires the Secretary of State to authorize libraries that previously served as passport acceptance facilities within 30 days of enactment. Finally, the Secretary must submit a report to congressional committees documenting compliance or explaining any noncompliance.
