What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Benay Taub Lung Cancer Research Act," directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to create a Lung Cancer Task Force within the National Institutes of Health. The task force will include members such as representatives from the National Cancer Institute and the National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program of the CDC. This group is tasked with examining disparities in research, funding, and patient access to treatments, as well as the level of Federal funding relative to the disease's burden and lung cancer screenings. Finally, the Secretary must provide a report to Congress within 180 days that includes findings and recommendations for increasing Federal funding for lung cancer research.
