What this bill would do
The "Pay Our Patriots Act" provides continuing appropriations to ensure certain people keep getting paid during a lapse in appropriations. It covers members of the Armed Forces performing active service and essential Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) civilian employees. These payments will be made at the rate in effect before the lapse started. This funding lasts until a regular appropriations Act or continuing resolution is passed, or until the end of the fiscal year.

Who it would affect, and how
Potential Positive Impacts for People
-
Guaranteed Pay for Military Members: Members of the Armed Forces, including reserve components on active service, would continue to receive their pay, allowances, and benefits during a government shutdown (Section 4(1)(A) and Section 2(a)).
-
Payment for Essential FAA Staff: FAA employees determined to be essential for safe airspace operations, such as air traffic controllers and safety inspectors, would maintain their pay and benefits (Section 4(1)(B) and Section 2(a)).
-
Financial Stability: Because funds are immediately available and not subject to reduction or sequestration, covered employees would avoid payment delays (Section 3(b)).
Potential Negative Impacts for People
- Limited Coverage: The bill only provides for "covered employees," meaning civilian FAA employees not determined to be performing essential duties would not benefit from these appropriations (Section 4(1)(B)).
