What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Sgt. Walter F. Hartnett IV Green Star Veterans Service Act. It requires the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to design and designate a Green Star Service Flag. This flag is meant to identify the next of kin of veterans who died as a result of suicide on or after September 11, 2001. Individuals who are the next of kin of these covered veterans are entitled to display the flag. Additionally, the bill allows people to apply for a license to manufacture and sell the flag. Manufacturing the flag without a license results in a civil penalty of not more than $1,000.
