What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "STREAMLINE ACT," aims to improve Tribal self-governance by simplifying how land is appraised. It directs the Secretary of the Interior to allow Indian Tribes with specific self-governance realty programs to use their own appraisals for land acquisitions. This applies when the land is located within or next to a reservation and the Tribe has the authority to handle real estate services. The bill seeks to reduce the need for Federal appraisals in these specific instances. It also mandates that the Secretary's acceptance of these appraisals satisfies their fiduciary and trust duties.
