What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Veterans Flight Training Responsibility Act of 2026. It amends title 38 of the United States Code to place a lifetime cap on the amount of educational assistance payable for certain flight training and contracted education programs under the Department of Veterans Affairs Post-9/11 Educational Assistance Program. For individuals who first pursue a covered program of education during the academic year beginning on August 1, 2026, the maximum amount payable is set at $119,684. For subsequent academic years, this maximum amount will increase based on the percentage increase determined under section 3015(h) of title 38. The bill also provides rules for calculating the maximum amount for individuals pursuing education on less than a full-time basis and for those who used entitlement prior to pursuing a covered program. These changes apply to academic years beginning on or after August 1, 2026.
