What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Permanent OPTN Fee Authority Act. It allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to collect registration fees from members of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network for each transplant candidate placed on a specific list. These fees can only be used to support the operation of the network. The bill also gives the network the option to set up a dashboard showing transplant statistics updated more frequently than annually. Additionally, the legislation requires transparency by having the Secretary post fee amounts and activities on a website, and mandates a review by the Comptroller General within two years.
