What this bill would do
The ``Protecting Infrastructure Investments for Rural America Act'' aims to make the rural surface transportation grant program more accessible to rural areas. It amends the United States Code to change population thresholds and introduces a new definition for a "small community." The bill establishes that small communities are areas outside urbanized areas with populations of 5,000 or less. It also adds goals to generate economic growth and improve the quality of life in these areas. Additionally, it sets a limit on the Federal share of project costs for these communities and mandates that a specific portion of program funds be used for them.
