Potential Positive Impacts for People
-
Easier Border Crossing for Native Americans and First Nations: Section 2 changes the requirements for American Indian tribe members and First Nations individuals in Canada to cross the US border, potentially making it easier for them to do so. Instead of requiring 50% American Indian blood, it allows members or those eligible to become members of a federally recognized Indian Tribe in the US, or those with Indian status in Canada or membership in a self-governing First Nation in Canada, to cross.
-
Lawful Permanent Residence Status: Section 2(b) grants individuals admitted to the United States under this amended section the status of a person lawfully admitted for permanent residence. This could provide stability and access to certain benefits for these individuals.
Potential Negative Impacts for People
- I don't see any negative impacts for people in the text of this bill.
