What this bill would do
The Empowering Parents' Healthcare Choices Act aims to amend several existing laws regarding health insurance and taxation. This bill would allow parents to select which health insurance policy or group health plan serves as the primary coverage for a dependent child. This selection can be made if both parents are covered under separate policies or group health plans at the time of the child's birth. To exercise this choice, both individuals must submit a notification within 60 days of the birth. The chosen primary coverage remains in effect until both individuals agree to discontinue it or the enrolled individual loses coverage.
