What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Don't Settle for Bribes Act of 2025," seeks to restrict the President from initiating civil lawsuits. It mandates that courts stay proceedings for civil actions involving a presidential candidate (within 90 days of the election), the President-elect, or the President. This restriction also extends to the President's immediate family and certain businesses or entities. The stay lasts until the end of the presidential term or the ratification of election results for unsuccessful candidates. Statutes of limitations for these actions are paused during the stay.
