What this bill would do
This bill proposes to amend the Food Security Act of 1985 to create the Forest Conservation Easement Program. The program would require the Secretary of Agriculture to establish easements to conserve and restore forest land and natural resources. It includes provisions for forest land easements and forest reserve easements to protect biodiversity, watersheds, and endangered species. The legislation also provides for cost-share assistance and technical assistance for eligible landowners and entities. Funding is set at $100,000,000 annually for fiscal years 2026 through 2030. Finally, it repeals Title V of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act of 2003 to integrate those functions into this new program.
