What this bill would do
This bill establishes a Fiscal Commission designed to educate the American public on the nation's fiscal health and the risks of the current debt. The Commission is tasked with identifying policies to reduce the debt and deficit, achieve a specific debt-to-GDP ratio by 2039, and improve the solvency of Federal trust funds. It consists of 16 members, including both political party representatives and outside experts. The Commission will produce a report containing legislative language to achieve its goals. This legislative language, known as an "implementing bill," is subject to expedited consideration in both the House and the Senate. Once its duties are complete, the Commission will terminate.
