What this bill would do
This bill is called the "Improving Reentry for District of Columbia Residents in the Bureau of Prisons Act of 2025". It requires the Director of the Bureau of Prisons to place covered individuals in facilities within 250 miles of the District of Columbia. This applies unless the individual consents to a further location or there are extraordinary circumstances. If extraordinary circumstances are used, the Director must provide a written explanation to specific congressional committees. The bill does not stop the Director from using prerelease custody or transferring individuals for supervised release.
