What this bill would do
The Secure E-Waste Export and Recycling Act aims to control the export of electronic waste. This control is intended to prevent such waste from becoming a source of counterfeit goods that could reenter United States military and civilian electronics supply chains. The bill defines electronic waste to include various items like computers, mobile devices, and consumer electronics. It establishes specific rules for exporting exempted items, such as tested, working used electronics or low-risk counterfeit electronics. To export these items, entities must meet registration and filing requirements. The Act will take effect one year after its enactment.
