These expenses are specifically for travel to and from the Washington Metropolitan Area for the purpose of casting votes in Congress. To receive lodging assistance, a Member must record a vote in person in their respective chamber on the day in question. The allowance for meals and incidentals can also cover the day before or after travel. These payments are based on rates set by the Administrator of General Services.
