What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Abortion DOULAS Act," directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to evaluate the benefits of abortion doula care and coverage. It defines abortion doula care as emotional, social, informational, and physical support provided by trained professionals to individuals before, during, and after abortions. The Secretary is tasked with conducting a study that assesses the impact of this care on individual well-being and the quality of care provided. This study must include data collection through surveys, interviews, and a review of academic literature. Additionally, the Secretary must consult with various experts and community-based organizations. Finally, a report containing the study's findings and policy recommendations must be submitted to Congress and made available to the public.
