What this bill would do
This bill, known as the ``State Immigration Enforcement Act'', is intended to authorize State enforcement of immigration laws. It allows States or their political subdivisions to create and enforce criminal penalties for conduct prohibited by federal immigration laws. These state criminal penalties are permitted as long as they do not exceed the relevant Federal criminal penalties. Additionally, the bill allows for the implementation of civil penalties that mirror those found in federal immigration laws. The bill also includes a conforming amendment to the Immigration and Nationality Act.
