What this bill would do
The ``Justice for ALS Veterans Act of 2025'' aims to amend title 38 of the United States Code. It seeks to extend increased dependency and indemnity compensation to the surviving spouses of veterans who die from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Under this bill, the duration the veteran lived with the disease prior to death will not matter. The act also defines a surviving spouse as someone married to the veteran for a continuous period of eight years or longer. These provisions would apply to veterans who die from the disease on or after October 1, 2025. Additionally, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs must submit a report to Congress regarding other service-connected disabilities that may warrant similar treatment.
