What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Local Opportunities, Conservation, and American Lands Act," seeks to improve the management of Federal lands and increase efficiencies within public land agencies. It establishes Grand Junction, Colorado, as the location for the Bureau of Land Management headquarters. The Act mandates that all Bureau of Land Management employee positions currently in Grand Junction remain there. Additionally, the Secretary of the Interior is required to conduct a study on moving more employee positions to the Grand Junction headquarters or a western State. The study aims to determine if these relocations can improve land management, community coordination, and various land uses. Finally, a report on this study must be submitted to specific House and Senate committees within 365 days of enactment.
