What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Veterans Emergency Treatment and Shelter Access Act or the VETS Access Act. It was introduced in the House of Representatives on September 24, 2026. The legislation allows the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide care, treatment, and rehabilitative services to certain veterans. This includes veterans suffering from serious mental illness and veterans who are homeless. These services can be provided directly or by contract in community-based treatment facilities, including halfway houses. The support can be given regardless of whether the veteran is normally eligible for hospital, nursing home, and domiciliary care.
