What this amendment would do
Mr. Schatz submitted amendment SA 715 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to school choice efforts that undermine the Federal trust responsibility to Indian Tribes and Native students and families.
This amendment aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger. This applies to legislation relating to prohibiting the diversion of Federal funding for school choice efforts—including those in the Department of Education and the Department of the Interior—that undermine the Federal trust responsibility to Indian Tribes and Native students and families. These adjustments are allowed as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
