Mrs. Moody submitted this amendment to change rules related to how college sports conferences can merge, buy assets, or take on media rights under the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961. As folks we voted into office look at protecting student athletes and fair competition, this amendment sets clear boundaries on conference growth and business deals.

What It Aims to Change

• For a 5-year period starting when the Protect College Sports Act of 2026 is enacted, it stops a covered conference from merging, consolidating, or acquiring assets or media rights of another covered conference or institution if it drops the member count below 75 percent of the institutions in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

• It restricts a covered conference from acquiring the assets or media rights of an institution that is not a covered institution unless the resulting member count of the covered conference stays at or below 20 institutions.
