What this amendment would do
This amendment was submitted by Mr. Booker, along with Mr. Murphy, as a proposal to the bill regarding student athletes. If we want to hold our officials and institutions accountable, we need to know what is going on behind closed doors. This proposal aims to add rules specifically about endorsement contracts for varsity sports coaches.
Here is what the amendment aims to change and add:
-
Fair Pay for Endorsements: It makes any coach's endorsement contract invalid unless the pay matches what is paid to other people with a similar profile, reputation, or notability who are not coaches or prospective coaches.
-
Required Disclosures: It forces schools to include information on any active endorsement contracts for their varsity sports coaches in their regular disclosures.
