What this amendment would do
SA 6763, submitted by Mr. Cassidy, aims to change the definition of a student athlete within bill S. 4668.
The amendment proposes the following changes to the definition:
-
A student athlete is an individual enrolled as a full-time student, or a student enrolled on less than a full-time basis, who makes satisfactory academic progress toward a degree and participates in intercollegiate athletic competition or a varsity sports team.
-
Students may be enrolled on less than a full-time basis if it is due to a medical reason, a disability, or practice with the United States Olympic team for the Olympic games.
-
The amendment includes a rule of construction stating that institutions, conferences, or intercollegiate athletic associations can still set academic progress standards that are more stringent than those described in the amendment.
