What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Mr. Daines, aims to add a new section (SEC. 111A) to bill S. 4784. Its purpose is to stop the importation of specific minerals into the United States.
The amendment prohibits the import of the following minerals if they are produced in the Russian Federation, produced by a Russian entity, or obtained to bypass these rules:
- Platinum (including palladium, braggite, rhodium, and ruthenium)
- Nickel
- Copper (ores and concentrates, including zinc)
This ban would start 90 days after the Act is enacted. It will end one year after the President tells Congress that the Government of the Russian Federation has stopped all hostilities against Ukraine.
